Heard back from Michael so
I am very relieved. It seems they started the organization as the Steve Everitt
Foundation in honor of their NFL son and donated supplies in the cities he
played in. It seems like he doesn’t play in the NFL anymore and the
organization has greatly shrunk. He wants to keep it very small and says they
don’t keep an address or phone (I guess the message I left is at a dead number
or his home phone) to avoid government red tape. He’s also really against
advertisement or solicited donations so I don’t know how that is going to hurt
some of the more advertisement-geared aspects of the project. I tried to
incorporate more of the sports into the logo design but it seems like that’s an
aspect of the organization that’s no longer relevant.

Still haven’t heard
anything more back from Michael Everitt. It seems like he’s the only one
managing the organization and it’s either keeping him really busy or it’s lower
in priority than his other work. I left a message at the number listed in the
chamber of commerce but I’m not sure how old it is or if he still checks it.
I’ve been working on logo designs based on competitor designs and the little
bit of imagery on the website. I’m a little worried that since he designed the
logo himself he won’t want to move in another direction and I think the art in
place right now is really not serving the organization well. We’ll see what
additional information I get from him later.

I didn’t hear back from any
of my organizations other than the Ada Initiative who turned me down. Melissa
had a second organization, The Art Box Kids, so I decided to take that. They
don’t have hardly any information available anywhere except for a brief
explanation of their cause on the home page. They donate school supplies to
children’s hospitals and shelters for sick and disabled kids. They seem really
small and specialized. I started looking at other similar organizations to help
assess what they need. I think especially they need more visible information
since I’m not really seeing any way to donate right now or to contact anyone
except through the Matthews chamber of commerce.

I’ve narrowed my clients
down to a few I’d really like to work with. The LGBT Comics one I think could
be really, really interesting since there’s so much color and imagery in place
to work from. They also seem really devoted to their cause so I’m hoping they’ll
get back to me. The Ada Initiative also looks pretty cool. They don’t have much
in the way of design going right now, but they have a very professional feel to
them so I think they have the opportunity for a really sleek and professional
design.
